HOW SOLAR ROOF WORKS

http://www.SolarEnergyGuide.net – Don’t Buy Solar Panels For Sale – Here’s a Better Solution For Solar Power
Each month, as people receive their electric bill, many contemplate turning to solar panels to reduce this utility cost. Some people are literally paying over half the amount of their house payment to the electric company. Solar panels are an investment in your home that you should definitely consider, but when you look at the cost of solar panels for sale, you may think you can’t afford it. There is a better solution for solar power.

How to Build Your Own Solar Panel

A typical solar panel installed on your home will average in cost between $7-$9 a watt. That means that one solar panel that produces 100 watts of electricity will run you about $700-900! While solar panels for sale are around $4-$6 per watt, installation brings that price up quite quickly. It just makes good financial sense to build your own.

Anyone who is rather handy and motivated can do it. The cost is about $200 and you can control the size of the panel so it fits where you have the space. Your first step should be a detailed, yet easy to understand, manual. Don’t get the first one you come across. Do a little research and if you can find one with videos, that’s even better.

The building supplies are next and you may be surprised to find most of them at your local hardware store: plywood, a roll of copper wire, and sheets of glass. The solar panel cells, also called photovoltaic cells, can be found at a local retailer or online.

Finally, it will take about a day to assemble a 100-watt panel, which can produce enough electricity to operate a small appliance. If you are building one for the first time, you may want to work on it over a long weekend. Once you get the first one done, the rest are easier and can be hooked together.

A Final Thought

There you have. It’s much easier than you might think and a lot less expensive to build your own solar panel. The solar panels for sale commercially may be for some people, but for others, they are simply too expensive. Start lowering your electric bill with a homemade solar panel and keep some of that utility bill money for something else!

You can save yourself time and literally thousands of dollars by looking over a review of guides to making solar panels and by using our online resources (no need to sign up) to get started fast using solar and wind power.

http://www.SolarEnergyGuide.net – How to Make a Homemade Solar Panel
Solar panels, unlike before, are cheap and easy to install with great efficiency. With this advent, you

can save big money as well as help save the environment. A DIY kit is available and has an easy to

follow instruction with them. What you need is some simple tools and you’re done.

Here is your guide to make a homemade solar panel:

1. First, you must know the loads of your solar panel and the package that is affordable to you. One

watt of solar panel module will coast you about $25 and a 200 watts module is around $1000. If you need

more power, you can connect this to form a collector to produce your desired power needs. Electrical

connections are made in series to achieve a desired output voltage and/or in parallel to provide a

desired amount of current capability.

2. After selecting the solar panel modules, you need a charge controller which is an important system

component that regulates the voltage generated by the solar panel. This will regulate your power and

provide protection to the batteries from being over or under-charged.

3. Next, you need a solar inverter this will convert 12 volt DC (direct current) from solar panel to 125

volts AC (alternating current) which will feed your appliances. Some high end inverters combine an

inverter, battery charger and dual transfer switch in one package.

4. Batteries are needed if there is no sun or there is a blackout in your area. Typically, lead acid

batteries are use because of performance and cost. Newer lead-acid battery is called maintenance free

and this does not require water addition, but this is expensive. The battery is one of the first

components of your solar panel to be replaced. Usually, a battery can have 200 to 300 charge/discharge

cycle because of corrosion and depletion of active materials. So, be prepared to change batteries in

about a year. Typical price of batteries ranges from 100 to 500 dollars.

5. Also, you must consider the battery enclosure as this are toxic and can explode. Solar PV

(Photovoltaic) Panel Mounting System is where your panel will be installed. You can choose either at the

roof, pole, or at the ground. There are so many designs to choose from and some have motors to track the

sun.

6. The last, but certainly the most important one, is that make sure to have your wire connection

checked by qualified technician. Faulty electrical wiring is the most common fire hazard today.

Now that you know how to make a homemade solar panel, you can now start this DIY project with ease. It’s

affordable and simple without having to worry about your monthly expenditure on electricity anymore.

You can definitely save money and the environment by making a homemade solar panel at your own home. It

is a fun, enriching, and worthy project to undertake.

http://www.SolarEnergyGuide.net – Solar Roof Tiles – Solar Power Without the Solar Look
If you’re like a lot of people these days who are considering the installation of solar power in their homes, you may not know the difference between solar roof tiles and a solar panels. And the distinction is important because the one thing that prevents many folks from enjoying the benefits of solar power is that they are afraid of ruining the appearance of their home.

So what is the difference between a home equipped with solar panels vs. one with solar roof tiles? It is not hard to notice. Solar panels are those large, cumbersome units that often are perched atop the roof of a house, making it look to some people like something out of a science fiction movie.

To install the panels properly, it is often necessary for additional roof framing or roof penetration. And if yours is the first house on the block to install solar panels, you might have to endure lots of funny looks and derogatory comments from the neighbors.

On the other hand, solar roof tiles are much less obtrusive than solar panels. As the name implies, solar roof tiles are incorporated into your existing roof, whether it consists of asphalt shingles or most other common types. One shingle weighs about 2.5 pounds per square foot, so they are generally easy to work with when it comes to installation.

They tend to be a dark bluish-gray in color, so they blend in easily with most existing roof types. And the best thing is that they provide for a seamless look, so the untrained eye will not be able to tell the difference.

But perhaps the best thing about solar roof tiles is how they help you save on your energy bill. One tile puts out about 50 to 200 watts of energy, which is about as much as a small window fan. While this may not sound like much, if you incorporate the tiles into your entire roof, you should be able to supply enough energy for your entire house.

And if you are fortunate enough to live in a sunny state such as California, Florida, or Arizona, you may even produce more energy than you need. You can then sell this excess energy back to the local power company, further reducing your energy costs.

So not only do solar tiles look great, they’ll help you do what’s really important: save money. To find out more about solar tiles visit solar roof shingles.

http://www.SolarEnergyGuide.net – How to Make Solar – A Quick And Easy 101 Guide to Solar Energy Production
Making a solar at home is quite a daunting task and something that shouldn’t be attempted without fully committing oneself to a great deal of work. It may not be rocket science but it is certainly a tricky and laborious process. If you are the type of person who thinks a hammer is nothing but am odd-shaped door stop, it may be in your best interest to leave the solar construction to professionals.

Having said that, making your own solar s can really be a rewarding home project and by taking on such a project yourself you can significantly cut your costs – by 50 to 80% – over a commercially available solar .

Since the prohibitive cost of solar s is in large part due to the high price of solar cells, you will achieve most of your cost reduction by purchasing damaged and used solar cells from sites such as Ebay. After that, using your ingenuity and some handy DIY skills, the only thing between you and a working solar is time and effort.

For now however, let’s take on a much more simple task and make a single solar cell. This project is great fun and can show the basic and simple concept behind solar energy.

What You Will Need:

1. Copper sheeting.
2. Two alligator clip lead cables.
3. A sensitive micro-ammeter you can find this at Radio Shack.
4. An electric stove or a one burner hot plate should you have a gas stove . If you are buying a hot plate make sure it’s at least 1100 watts.
5. A large clear plastic bottle. Think 2 Liter Coke or Mineral Water bottles with the top cut off.
6. A few tablespoons of salt.
7. Water.
8. Sand paper, steel wool or a wire brush attachment for an electric drill.
9. Metal sheers.

How It’s Done: Cut a piece of copper sheeting at approximately the size of the stove burner. Make sure to thoroughly clean the copper sheet using sandpaper or steel wool to remove any sulfide and/or light corrosion. Heat the copper sheet on the burner on the highest heat setting As the copper increases its’ temperature the color will turn black with a layer of cupric oxide. This is normal. Let the copper “cook” for around 30 minutes. After 30 minutes turn of the burner and let the copper cool. It will shrink – also quite normal. The black cupric oxide will begin to flake and detach as both the oxide and copper shrink. It will take approximately 20 minutes for the copper to cool, at which point you will need to remove any excess cupric oxide black film left on the copper. You can scrub lightly with your hands under your tap. At this point cut another piece of copper at exactly the same size and dimensions as the “cooked” copper. Place both copper sheets into the plastic bottle, bending them carefully to fit and ensuring they do not touch. Attach the two alligator clips to each sheet, connecting the positive lead from the “Clean copper sheet” to the positive terminal of the meter, and the negative lead the “cooked” copper sheet to the negative terminal of the meter. Mix your 2 tablespoons of salt in with some hot water. Stir until the salt is dissolved. Carefully pour the salt water into the plastic bottle being careful to avoid pouring onto the leads. A good rule of thumb is to leave at least an inch between the water and the leads so you can move around the device with relative ease.

A solar cell is a battery, so you can expect that even in the dark your meter will show a few microamps of current. Don’t expect that it will light a baseball field though, and it would take acres of these literally to power your house. I sincerely doubt there would be enough power generated by this to power a light bulb. However, once you put this device in the sunlight you will see the meter jump to 30+ microamps of current – which would be enough to use your new solar cell as a light meter or light detector.
